GERMAN COLONIES.
HITLER’S NEXT DEMANDS. LONDON, June 17. The News-Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent says that Herr , Hitler is formulating _ Germany’s colonial demands at a special Reicnstag meeting, the date ot which will be fixed this week. It is believed that lie will demand the return of Togoland, the Cameroons, and the former German East Africa, but not South-west Africa; because the “German Government are anxious to maintain friendly relations with the South African Government.” The German Press is now allowed freely to discuss the colonial issue.
BREACH OF VERSAILLES
ISLANDS FORTIFIED
LONDON, June 17. The Daily Telegraph’s naval correspondent says that Germany is refortiiying Heligoland, which was permanently demilitarised under the Versailles Treaty. Work is reported to be proceeding with the utmost energy. A new harbour is being constructed and powerful batteries installed. Other German North Sea islands retortified and heavily armed are Borkum and Wanderoog, which guards the entrance to the Wilhelmshaven naval base, and Norderney and Sylt are also reported to be strongly detended.
