REPORT ON RAILWAY.
SOUTH ISLAND LINE. CONSIDERED BY CABINET. (Bv Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, June 17. The report of tlie Government officers who made a recent tour of the South Island Main Trunk line, on the uncompleted route, has been before Cabinet, stated the Prime Minister to the “Stand "s” correspondent, today. There are one or two points to be settled within the next week or so, and there will then be a statement made regarding Public Works construction. “The Government are bound to build the line,” added Mr Savage, “and it is only a question of when. It is a matter of shaping our financial course, and takings things in tlieir turn. We will go as rapidly as possible, consistent, of course, with proper financial methods and the proper organisation of our activities.”
