REGENT THEATRE.

“.MISS PACIFIC FLEET.’’ A quartette of the screen’s best fun makers, made up of two blonde menaces, Joan Blondcll and Glenda Farrell, and Hugh Herbert, and Allen Jenkins, head the cast with .loan and Glenda again teamed as a pair of wise cracking gold-diggers in “Miss Pacific Fleet” opening to-night at the Regent Theatre. They play the parts of two chorus girls, stranded on the Pacific Coast, and running a concession in an amusement park at a naval base in the hope of getting enough money to pay their way hack to New York and jobs. They go completely broke, however, when the champion prize fighter of the navy puts them out of business by his skill as a enne ringer. But the cane ringer falls in love with one of tlie chorines, Joan, and when the wily promoter starts a beauty contest he agrees to light, the local pug and give tho winner’s prize. 50CO votes, to her. But his own pal falls in love with Joan, which leads to some riotous complications, and winds up in a thrilling, though laughable climax, in which there is a kidnapping, a wild motor boat chase, and a free for all hair pulling match. Allen Jenkins, as the prize fighter, who battles for his girl and then gives his votes to a rival when he finds his sweetie has double crossed him and gone out. with his host friend, is even funnier than lie wilts in “The Irish in Us,” which is superlative praise. Warren Hull, famous radio and musical comedy star, is the third side of the triangular romance, wooing and winning the chorus beauty by magnetism and song. This is the second film in which Hull lias appeared, and the first in which he has had a singing role. He proves himself a capable artist as much at home in film work as he is on the radio. Others who do excellent work in the picture include Eddie Acuff, Marie Wilson, Guinn Williams and Anita Kerry. Raymond Enright has done a fine job of directing, bringing out all the hilarious situations of the story by Frederick Ilazlitt Brennan. The screen play is by Lucille Newmark and Peter Milne, while (he dialogue is by Patsy Flick. Music and lyrics are by M. K. Jerome and Herb Magidson.
