CHEESE AWARDS

NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW. CHAMPIONS HIP TO PEMBROKE. In the cheese section of the dairy classes at the National Dairy Show the championship of New Zealand went to the Pembroke Dairy Company. 'Taranaki, Pahiatua gaining second place and Rapanui third. The championship for the Manawatu and West Coast area was annexed by Rapanui, with Oroua Downs second and Kairanga third.

11l their comments the judges state: ‘‘There was a slight decrease in tho number of exhibits staged for judging as compared with last year, due no doubt to the difficult conditions experienced by checseinakers throughout the season.

“The quality generally was well up to standard of previous Shows, the winning exhibits being exceptionally good. Although most of . the cheese was free from mechanical openness, some showed evidence of slitty texture. The flavour, with exceptions, was satisfactory. The body in some of the entries, however, was on the firm side. “Comment has previously been made concerning the lack of attention given to tho finish of exhibits, and this delect was again iu evidence, a number of entries being penalised on that account.” The awards were made as follow, the factory manager’s name being shown in parentheses:— SPECIAL PRIZES.
