(From Ovn Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, June 15. The fortnightly euchre, ping-pong and dance evening was held in the Pohangina Hall on Friday, there bc.ig a good attendance. The night was fine, but bitterly told; however, a cheery log lire in the supper room, whore the euchre tournament was hold, completely dispelled the cold, while in the hall proper, the keen competition of the ping-ptug players made the cold night an advantage. Honours in the euchre section went to Mrs J. D. Galvin and Mr J., Murphy, consolatim prizes bc*ng; awarded to Air J. D. Galvin and Mrs J. Brown. Aliss N. Harland and Air J. Rr-.vbcthnm were the winners of the pingpong tournament, results being as follow:—Ladies: Aliss N. Harland won 3 games, lost 2; Aliss A. Brown, won 2, lost- 5: Miss M. Brown, won 1, lost 4; Aiks N. Jacobson, won 0, lost 5. Alen : J. Ro.vbctham, won 5, lost 0; A. Brown, wtn 2, lost 0; B. Caldwell, won 0, lost 5. A Wright, won 4, lost 1; I. Leppor, wcu .4, lost 1; S. Craven, won 2 lost 3. D Rockett, won 1, lost 3; I. Blixt, won 3. lost 2; G. Blixt, won 2, iost 3; R. llobson, won 4, lost J: V. Klinlc, won 4 lost 1; G. Wagstaff, ’won 3, lost 2. The trophies were presented by Mr A K. Orgias, president of the Fing-l'o ig Chub, ufter which supper was served and the hall cleared for dancing. Alusic was r«idered by Air E. Bramwell, of Feilding, Air G. Wagstaff carrying out the duties of M.C.

On Friday, members of the Pohangina Valley Defence Rifle Club held a “working bee’’ at the Raumai range. The butts, which had fallen into disrepair, were reconstructed, nid other necessary work done. The annual rose bowl competition was held on Saturday over langes of 300, 500 and 600yds. The day was fine and shooting conditicus were ideal. The winner of the contest was D. The annual meeting of the Pohingina Valley branch of the Farmers’ Union was held at Raumai on Saturday evening, Air J. D. Balmer presiding. The balancesheet, presented by the secretary (Mr J. A. Rowbotham) revealed a small credit bah nee. In his address, the pres:dent said that the past year had seen a number of changes in the affairs of the union. The affairs of the Dairy Farmers’ Union had been liquidated and the amalgamation with the Farmers’ Unim was now completed. The executive were taking an active interest in recent legislation so far as it affected the farmer, and he appealed for the wholehearted support of every member of the union. Remits from the branch had received full considerate •i, and Iliad, for the most part, received the full backing of the executive. He dealt with matters of interest which the union had faced during the year, and mention was made of the pending visit of the organiser to the district. Mr Balmer tluiiked all members for their loyal co-operation during the past year. The secretary reported that during the past week a demonstration on pigs had been given by Air N. P. Neilson. Tho event, which was hold on Mr Whitehead’s property at Awahau, was fairly well attended, md an interesting and instructive afternoon was spent. The election of officci’3 for file ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Air J. D. Balmer; vice-president, Air J. T. Aloar; secretary, Air J. A. Rowbotham. Mr Balmcr’s appointment as the branch’s representative on tho executive committee was confirmed. The secretary of the executive wrote stating that all remits should be sent in at least seven days before the executive mect:ngs, to allow them to be circulated to all branches before being placed before the executive. A letter from the Commissioner of Taxes regarding deductions from gross incomes for ncomo tax purposes was read. Following a discussion, the meeting decided to protest against the unfairness in disallowing, as a deduction from the gross income, the damage caused by floods and storms. The following remit to the executive committee was carried : “That this branch emsiders that tlie retail price of fish is too high and urges tho Government to investigate the position.”
