“LABURNUM GROVE.”
THIS WEEK'S PRODUCTION. It takes a good play, well acted to keep ail audience intcrostid and con tented, oven in a warm and fully l»*l»ted theatre. It takes a betetr play and bctcti acting o Wood a single spectator from feeimg the S£ c» nn Wednesday, Thursday, and I'nday next, H at one who saw a rehearsal of the play, throughout two and a half hours knew nothing but the theme and the players ability The smooth running of the enHre plav speaks volumes for the splendid cooperation between cast and producer. It was fascinating to watch the _ very few “rough” facets of the production being polished and re-polished under one s eyesthc keenness and willingness of tho players to give their utmost m the cause of a pelfeet production. One thing that struck the observer was tho absolute lack of what are generally termed “minor parts, or else it mav Lie that the smaller parts arc being handled with such skill that they become important in themselves. Every cog in the wheel fits into its position with perfect smoothness and precision , , There is no question of J. B. Priestley a skill ill the art of story telling through ‘the medium of the stage. Every situation from the opening of the play increases the suspense which is maintained to the last, moment, before the curtain falls, t heatregoers arc indeed promised one of the tinost entertainments seen in Palmerston North for a long time when the curtain rises on “Labrnum Grove” on Wednesday evening, to reveal correct settings, furnishings and lighting as a frame for tho work of talented performers as they unfold this sparkling comedy of modem life.
