FARM LABOUR
FEAR OF SHORTAGE. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, June 12. . Support for an immigration scheme on the lines of that proposed in the Auckland province was given by the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union to-day, when grave anxiety was expressed regarding tho farm labour position in the coming production season. It was said that farmers could not hope to compete with the Public Works Department wages of £4 for a five-day week. The > Auckland scheme proposed imniigration of young single men selected carefully to ensure their usefulness to New Zealand farmers.
