An enjoyable afternoon was spent on Thurstuiy by the ladies of St. Mark’s Church at the residence of Mr and Mrs K L. Hurvie, Alangatainoka. Competitions, community singing and other items helped to pass tne time. Prior to the serving of afternoon tea, the vicar (Rev. P. 'Wiltshire) took the opportunity of making a presentation •to Mrs y. A. ltombach, who tor many years lias been the organist at St. Mark’s Church. Items were contributed by Miss E. Chatwin, Aliss Ginnane, and Mr Wiltshire. Competitions were won by Mrs AV. Olsen, Mrs L. J. Rusden and Mrs A. Husdcn, According to the secretary of the Pahiatua Boxing Association (Air J. A. Walsh) there is every possibility of a return match between Harold Reeve, light-heavyweight boxing champion of New Zealand, and Ray Nicol, taking place. The selector has chosen the following players to represent the Rush Rugby Union to meet Puketoi at Pongaroa oil Wednesday next: Staples ; Page, Bloxam, White; S. Wolland, AlcSherry; Lett; Bailey. Olliver, Sharplin, Waters, Burns, Failover, T. Harvey, A. Alahoney. Reserves: Reeve, Matthews, Jensen, Twentyman, Alissen, Graham. The Presbyterian Church- Ladies’ Social Guild met at the home of Airs R. L. Barley on Wednesday afternoon, when business matters were discussed. A menu' competition was held, the winner being Mrs AVarren. Mrs Carrod and Aliss Henderson were the hostesses, and served afternoon tea. The first annual meeting of the AVairarapa Provincial Council of the Young Farmers’ Club was held at Alasterton yesterday. .-The report stated that at September, 1935, there were nine Young Farmers’ Clubs, and it was considered necessary to form a council to link up the AVairarapa clubs in a common interest. The council as elected consisted of the young farmers’ chairman and the advisory president of caqh club,, together with a number of other persons comprising members of the Farmers’ Union, A. and P. Associations, officers of the Department of Agriculture. and representatives of kindred bodies. Air C. H. Perry was elected president of the council, and Air J. H. Bremner vice-president. The offices of hon. secretary and lion, treasurer were filled bv Alessrs S. Freeman and H. M. Boddington respectively. Ail executive committee was appointed as follows: Tlie president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, Alessrs J. E. Hewitt, C. T. Richardson, AA’. F. AleLaren, J. M. James, Duncan AlcGregor, AV. G. K. Wiggins, C. J. Nix, A. Linton and S. A. La Roche, together with the chairmen of the Masterton and Carterton clubs.
