ARE YOU GUILTY OF THIS?
“What mannerism do you find most characteristic among women?” This was a question recently put to Air Christopher Burns, the well-known American psycho-analyst. To which lie waggishly replied, “The great feminine gesture of that awkward pull which even the nicest women give their corsets on standing up!” So! We wear corsets to make our figures attractive, and all that mere man remembers is not how’ we look in them, but how we tug at them. Well, what a lot we’re going to thank 1936 for. For it has dealt very deftly and very finally with that old fault. Nearly all the better corset fabrics now have lastex -woven into them. You can’t see a sign of it, the fabric doesn’t become any heavier—yet it makes the daintiest satins wash and
wear like linen. It makes the fabr.ie stretch like a piece of elastic and spring back into place the moment the tension is released. Aon can imagine what a blessing this has proved. It has removed the final problem of the construction of the corset. Used cleverly, it can provide the “give” for every movement of the human body. It makes the fabric cling tenaciously and comfortably ; and is sufficiently firm and controlling to do away with most boning, except over the diaphram where flattening is flattering. It’s going to make an. amazing difference to our chic. There’s no doubt about that, for a beautifully groomed woman to move about and sit gracefully, only to tug furtively at her corsets upon standing up, is just the sublime and the ridiculous. Have you ever been guilty? Then take our advice, and see about a corset in one of the lovely new stretchable fabrics just as soon as ever you can. And please don’t buy it over the counter —have it fitted true to your figure type.
