BRITISH DEFENCES.
NEAV ORGANISATION. LONDON, May 26. Mr A. Duff-Cooper (Secretary for AA'ar) in a letter to a Manchester correspondent, reveals that the AVar Office is planning a new national defence force. The correspondent wrote pointing out that numbers of ex-servicemen were were anxious to enrol themselves for the defence of the country and suggesting the creation of a home defence force.
Mr Duff-Cooper, replying, said that the War Office is at present considering the establishment of such a force by reorganising and enlarging the existing Royal Defence Corps, thus giving opportunities to ex-servicemen to help in the defence of the country. The formation of the Royal Defence Corps was announced two years ago, but it was never properly organised. It was to consist of middle-aged exservicemen who, in war-time, would run essential home services and assist in air and other defence schemes.
