TE ARAKURA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKUUA, May 25.
On Friday evening the Te Arakina. Xenis Club held a successful wind-up dance in the hall. Ideal weather prevailed and a large number were present to enjoy the dance, which consisted of both old-time and modern numbers, interspersed with various noveltv dances, the music being supplied by a professional orchestra from Palmerston North. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr D. Lower. The floor was in first-class order, and with excellent music and a dainty savoury supper, left nothing to bo desired. Much credit is due to the committee responsible for tho arrangements. The noveltv dances were won by Miss M. Lewis and Mr D. Goffe (Monte Carlo waltz) and the lucky Gay Gordons by Miss M. Eaton and Mr J. Sorenson. The snow-ball dance caused much amusement and proved very popular, while streamers and squeakers added to the gaiety of tho dance. An extra dance number was contributed by Mr D. Durie. Among those present were: Mrs J. J. Hume; Mcsdames J. Sorenson, navy blue lace; F. Bradley, red floral crcpc-de-chine; D. Dalglcish, pink lace and georgette; McMamara, apple green lace; W. E. Thomas, black georgette; M. Burnham; D. Salter, yellow matalasso; Misses M. Vautier, saxc blue georgette; L. Gore, apricot silk velvet; H. Bennett, whito crinkle crepe; B. Cheetham, apple green suede crepe; D. Lower, scarlet suede crepe; B. Bradley, floral silk voile; L. Enovoldscn, blue moire; J. Cheotham,’ white matalasso; M.‘ Burnham, rose pink crepc-dc-chine; J. Bennett, white matalasse; E. Bennett (Ongarue), maize organdie; M. Firth, lime green satin; E. Whisker, midnight blue silk velvet and silver lame; E. Hansen, pink floral silk georgete; B. Morgan, gren satin and black velvet; E. Sutcliffe, black georgette; J. Stanley, pink not and lace; M. Eaton, red crepe mid silver lame; Buekland, cherry crepe; Rowlands, gold silk velvet; J. Bradley, primrose yellow moire; McGlone, green lace; G. Esau, blue organdie. The winners of the competitions wero Mrs Dalgleish, Mr W. Larkin. Miss J. Howe and Miss B. Cheel ham. The club’s thanks arc duo to all who attended the dance; and to the ladies in charge of the supper, Mcsdames j. J. Hume, F. Bradley, S. Sorenson, and Burnham; and tho door attendants, Messrs J. J. Hume, B. Burnham, J. Sorenson, and. F. Bradley. Mr and Mrs D. Salter have returned to Raetihi after spending a holiday at Te Arakttra as the guests of Mr and Mrs J. H. Bennett. Miss E. Whisker loft by the Limited express last evening for Ougarue after spending her vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs Whisker, Cameron’s Line extension. Miami Mrs Sattrup. of Hamilton, were recent visitors to the district and were tho guests of Mr and Mrs P. Danielson. Miss T. Lewer, of I’otone. who was a week-end visitor to Tc Arakura, returned by car last evening.
