SPEEDWAY RIDERS

WORLD TOUR MOOTED. A syndicate composed of wellknown financial and sporting personalities on both sides of the Atlantic is sponsoring a scheme to engage tlie foremost speedway riders for a threeyears’ world tour, says the Daily Alail, London. The plan has backing to the extent of £200,000, and the syndicate does not include anyone interested in the running of speedway racing here. To provide the necessary twenty riders British League clubs would be raided. Offers would be made to such stars as: Frank Charles, Erie Laugton, Tommy Croombs, Alax Grosskreutz, Jack Barker, Dick Case, Vic Huxley, Ron Johnson. The best men would be given a three-years contract at £2OOO a year with expenses paid and machines provided. Overseas riders such as the brothers Jack and Cordv Milne, of the United States,_ and Erie Cliittv, the Canadian champion, would be approached, as would Balzar Hansen, the leading Danish rider, and Ferdinand Aleynier, champion of France. ENGLAND RULED OUT. Originally it was intended that the scheme should be completed in Alay, but time was too short to make arru ngements. 'This speedway circus would leave in October and race in South Africa, Australia, Now Zealand and Japan, followed by a tour of the SO speedways in the United States and Canada, and concluding with European countries. 'The tourists would put on exhibition meetings with occasional Test matches in the different countries visited. Agents are already in touch with Continental and overseas authorities, and a member of the syndicate is expected to go on ia. world tour this summer to arrange final details. Tho Auto-Cycle Union, the governing body of British sixeedway racing, will not bo approached, for obviously it could not give permission for a scheme which would denude our tracks of star riders. The tourists would not appear in England.
