BY EMIGRATION. Australia’s population suffered a permanent loss of 67 persons by oversea emigration in the quarter ended March 31, when there were 3329 immigrants intending to reside permanently in Australia, and 3393 Australian residents departed permanent- ~ During the quarter ended_March 31, 1935, there was a loss of 587 persons. Italians and Greeks both increased their numbers in Australia. Permanent new arrivals in the quarter ended March 31 this year included 349 Italians and 156 Greeks, and permanent departures were 66 Italians and 47 Greeks, so that there was a net permanent increase of 283 in the Italian and 109 in the Greek population, compared with net permanent increases of 236 and 45 respectively in the corresponding quarter of 1935. There was a permanent loss of British residents of Australia last quarter of 677. In the quarter ended March 31, 1935, the loss of permanent British residents was 841. The total number of persons who arrived in Australia last quarter was 17.185, and the total number who departed was 18,350, a loss of 1165. This was a decrease of 3867 persons in the net loss, compared with the similar period of 1935, when the departures exceeded the arrivals by 4032 persons.
