Vice-Admiral Sir Alexander Hamsay has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of tlie East Indies Station from June 14, says a Condon cable message. At the annual meeting of the Taranaki Electric Power Board yesterday Mr H. G. Carman, who has been chairman since its inception 14'years ago, was re-elected. For the first time in the history of the New Zealand Educational Institute a past president (Mr F. L. Combs, M.A.) was elected president at the annual conference yesterday. The Gazette notifies that Mr M. E. Perreau, Mayor of Foxton, has been appointed a Government member of the Foxton Harbour Board. Mr Perreau takes the seat rendered vacant by the death of Mr F. C. llaikes. lit. Bev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, who was to have sailed yesterday for Australia, having accepted an invitation to be present at a church centenary function, was unable to leave owing to indisposition. The Bishop has recovered from a minor operation, but is at present still under medical cure. I>r. A. G. Aitken, a former student and graduate of the University of Otago, has been elected to a fellowship of the Royal Society. Professor W. B. Benhani (Otago University) and Professor C. Farr (of Canterbury College) are members of the Royai Society, while the late Dr. L. Cockayne was also associated with the society at the time of his death.
