POULTRY NOTES.

(By “Brooder.”; The Massey College annual report ot the 1935-36 egg-laymg contest, always splendidly illustrated, this year seems more attractive than ever. Mr J. H. lvissling has taken pains to make the publication a real souvenir of the contest and one which participators particularly will bo glad to have. “Brooder ’’acknowledges receipt of a copv which he is going to find very helpful in many ways. Schedules for the June show of the Manawatu Club are now in the printers’ hands and should be ready within the next few days. During the last week two more specialist clubs, Sussex and White Leghorn, have offered to hold their shows in conjunction with the club show and such offers have been gladly accepted. A great show is now assured.

All bird lovers , regret the bereavement which Mr W. Inkpen lias suffered in the death of Ills wile. They sympathise deeply with him in his great trouble and wish for him better health than he has had during the last few months, and hope that lie will be again able to care for unci show the birds he loves so well. Says Poultry:—At a recent threeday country show 1 heard what seemed a worth while suggestion made by an exhibitor of White Wyandottes whose exhibits had become soiled on the lower feathers by reason of there being very little straw provided in the coop- His suggestion was that a perch provided for roosting at night would add to the comfort and cleanliness ot the fowls. Fowls are not allowed when at home to rest on floors for the night and the perch would make for more comfort and cleanliness. Another thing .to be insisted on is the fixed drinking vessel, as these are often overturned and so damp the stiaw, the water often trickling through to lower coops. . 'trade m eggs with America is a question receiving the thought of Australian egg producers at present. It is pointed out that with a population of 120,000,000 in the United States it should bo possible to do business.
