PEACE OR WAR?

(To the Editor.) Sir, —It seems quite time that the voice of the young men who are required by the older generation to fignt to kill those young men of other nations, who also are supposed to be ■defending their country, should have something to say on this matter of peace or war. There is a section of us who believe in the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Alan as expressed by Jesus Christ, and who cannot reconcile this with the statement made by Alajor Duff-Cooper, reported in your columns on the 22nd: “Church leaders should say boldly, that it is a man’s duty to defend his country.” So long as this out-otVdate 1914 talk continues we can never bring peace on earth. We know from experience that piling up armaments must ultimately result in conflict. Why then cannot we find some new method? Alany of us feel that we cannot under any circumstances take up arms against our fellow men in modern warfare. We believe that only when our vision reaches beyond militarism can we truly progress towards that peace for which almost every individual is longing. Let us be constructive for a change.—l am, etc., J. A. THOAIPSON.
