AiARTOX, April 8. The monthly meeting of the Alarton District High School Committee was held last evening, Mr H. J. Fowler presiding. It was reported that the headmaster. Air A. AV. Tucker, was confined to Ills lied .suffering from injuries to his head sustained in an accident at the school, and a motion of sympathy was passed by the committee-, and the hone was expressed that he would soon recover. The headmaster’s report stated that the attendances at the school had been excellent, the averages being 90.4' per cent, in the primary department and 94.3 per cent, in the secondary department. The bal-ance-sheet for the year was presented by the secretary. It had been audited n the board’s office, and was returned without a. tag, ,Alr Gill receiving the congratulations and thanks of the committee for.liis excellent work. The figures disclosed that receipts from Hie board were less by £3 10s than in the previous year, while money raised I !>v voluntary contributions had fallen off by 50 per cent. It was only possible to balance the accounts bv practising the strictest economy,, and much very necessary work had been left undone. This being the final meeting of the present committee prior to the householders’ meeting. Air Reid took the opportunity'to announce that -he would not be seeking re-election for another term. Air Fowler announced that he, too, was not seeking re-elec-tion, and the same intimation was made by Alessrs E. Fletcher, A. L. AVillianis and H. AVysocki. At a special meeting of the' Wanganui Metropolitan Rugby Union, held last evening for the purpose of considering Air J. Arove’s scheme for the amalgamation of playing interests of city and Rangitikei clubs, a motion wm passed ratifying the clubs’ adoption of the scheme,, which is to become operative after the end of the first round of AVanganui Rugby Union’s competition and a sub committee was set up to interview the Rangitikei Union oil the matter. The cricket season having concluded. the averages for representative games show that T. C. Lowry heads the batting list, with an average of 4S. due chiefly to his 71 not out against Alanawatu. AV. Spence, also of Taihape, is second, then there is a drop of 12 to Al. AVysocki who has an average of 19.6. AVysocki was the only member to score over 100 runs in a one innings, although D. A. Cameron scored 99. In bowling averages, H. Parkes heads the list with an average of .11.8 per wicket. Credit is due, however, to H. Marcliall, who takes second place with an average of 13.6. Alarshall bowled 96.2 overs and secured the most wickets (22). AVillianis and Alarsliall were the only members to secure more than 10 wickets, with 11 and 22 respectively. MAR TON. April 9. The annual meeting of the Alarton Band was held this week. The chairman was Air G. Lampp. The election of officers lesulted as follows : Patron, the Alayor (Air F. AA'ilson, F. Thorby, AV. Humphries, D. AA’illiams, R. Laird and officers ex officio; drum-major, Air C. Alarsden. . Air Sicely’s resignation from the position of president was accepted with regret. A letter of appreciation of his services to the band is to be forwarded to him. There was a large attendance atthe annual meeting of the Alarton AA" rest ling Club. Air IT. H. Fowler presided. Tthe election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron. Air O. AA’ilson, AI.P.; president. Air K. H. Fowler; vice-presidents, Alessrs AA. E. Simpson. H. R. Gaisford, N. Crabb and J. Fowler, N Cairncross and AAV AA’ebb. It was dec’ded to affiliate with the Rangitikei AA’restling Association. The president said that- the Boxing Association were deserving of special thanks for their assistance in lending a platform. A letter of appreciation is to be sent. Reference was made to the serious illness of Air A. Todd, who had been, an active worker on the committee and a letter of sympathy is to be sent to him. The president, secretary and Air R. Bland were a p noin ted a match committee and were instructed to proceed immediately with the arranging of a match.
