Perry (Tliorndon) found the greens of Saturuuy challenging and lie suffered -detents in both toe lourth and filth rounds. The fourth round, played on Saturday morning, saw him oeaten 21 —5 by E. Anderson (Terrace End) and in the fifth he suffered defeat, 20 —16, by L. T. Brown (Palmerston North). In the sixth round, however, heMi'lumplied in his match with Hicks (Oroua), thinning by 27 points to 19. The Wellington greens have been on the heavy side this, season, and although conditions were more to Perry’s liking oil Friday, the faster greens of tiie following day threw lus rink a little out of their stride and the two defeats resulted.

J. A.“ Nash (Palmerston North), who had gone through the first four games without, defeat, had to strike his colours to Gunson (Opunake) in the fifth, the game resulting in a win for the latter by 18 points to 13. Nash had an unpromising opening and at the 10th head was six points in arrears with the score at 11—5. On the next two heads he added a two and a single, but hits opponent did likewise with the succeeding two heads. Nash then replied with a three and a two on "the following heads to make his total at 13, but Gunson scored two twos on the two last heads, to leave the final score 18 —13. In the last game of the day also Nash was beaten, by Gil herd (Manawatu). At the 14th head Gilberd led 21 —12, but Nash put on four points at the loth head. He did not score again and the game ended 26 16. 'll. Ramsay (Palmerston North), who won one game in the first six, had reason to think that the gods of fortune were smiling on three of liis opposing skips. In three games he was lying to win with the last bowl to he sent down and then failed to gather the honours of the contest. Crump (Palmerston North) emerged from the day’s play with three wins and three losses showing - a gainst his name on the aggregate. ' -At the close of the fourth round lie had two wins 'and two losses but in the fifth round was beaten 20 —19 by White (Feilding). In the sixth he defeated Thomson | (Foxton) by 23 points to 15.
