BULLS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.; BULLS, April 9. A large number-gathered in the 'town Hall supper room on Tuesday evening to bid farewell, to Mr P. Larincr, a popular local resident for several years, . who is leaving Bulls at the week-end to take up a position in Auckland. Mr J. H. Ellery was in charge of the progressive euchre tournament, and the prize-winners were Miss Marjorie Carter and Mr Jack Homes, while consolation, prizes were awarded to Mrs T. H. Green and Mr J. Bromley. Supper was provided by the ladies, and the rest of the evening was filled with dancing, Mr C. H. Edwards kindly supplying the music. During the interval, Mr J. E. Walker, chairman of the Town Board, spoke of the good qualities of the guest of the evening, Mr Larnicr being popular with all, and he could rest assured that he carried away with him the best wishes of people of the town and country for his future success and happiness. On behalf of those present and others who were unable to attend, Mr Walker handed a ’pocket wallet, fountain pen and pencil to Mr Larmor, to the strains of “For He's A Jolly Good Fellow.” Mr M. C. Gould, who had employed Mr Larincr, said that he could not wish for a more conscientious and painstaking assistant, and while . regretting his departure, felt sure that he would do well wherever he went. Mr Larincr, who was warmly greeted, thanked the previous speakers for their kind remarks, and said that he would miss his many friends in Bulls, but would come back to see them all. It was nice to feel, he added, that he did not have an enemy in the district, and he felt it an honour that so many had come along to say goodbye to him. His parents lived in Auckland, and he felt that liis place was there. A good number of local residents arc taking advantage of the ]sastcr vacation to make short trips to various parts of the North Island, and several erstwhile Bulls people are visiting friends here. Mr and Mrs Harry Aldcrwick, of Westmcrc, were visitors here during the week. Mr and Mrs L. Homes, of Blenheim, are staying with Mrs W. Homes, at Parcwanui. The visitors came by ’plane to Palmerston North on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs A. J. Shaw are staying at Eastbourne, Wellington. Mr and Mrs F. A, Holland, and Misses M. Holland and M. Button have gone to Napier and Taupo. Mr and Mrs D. Howard and family motored through to Napier. Mrs C. Flower is visiting her son, Ronald, in Wellington. Mr C> Doig has joined a mountaineering party for the holidays. Mr C. M. Broughton is taking part in the Hawke’s Bay Rifle Association meeting at Napier. April 11. Perfect weather prevailed on Friday when a progressive pairs tournament was played on the' Bulls Bowling Chib’s green, which was in fine order. Twenty players took part, Martonians and Bulls members being equally divided, and after a series of eight games the winning skip was H. Raynor (Marton) and three from the same club tied for tlio leads’ prize. They were Miles, Nicol and Welch, the first-named winning in the play-off. Games wore won as follow :—Skips; Raynor. 6 wins; Walker, Goebel, Wilson and Hamer, 5 each: Stevens and Ingram. 4 each: Parkcs and Caldow 3. Leads: Welch, Miles and Nicol, 6 each; Price, 5; Healy, 4; Thomson, Simpson, Ellery and Pearce, 3 each, Mr G. H. Archer went through to Wellington by motor-car on Friday afternoon. Mr and Mrs V. Broughton, of Wellington, and Mr E. M. Broughton, of Pahiatua, visited Mrs C. M. Broughton, Bulls, during the holidays.
