THE RACING CARNIVAL

DOMINION-WIDE MEETINGS GLORIOUS WEATHER PREVAILS The Easter racing carnival was continued to-day with, meetings throughout the country. The E’eilding fixture again attracted a big crowd for its concluding day, and with the good fields paid up for the racing was excellent. Other meetings included those of the Auckland, Wairarapa, Riverton, Beaumont and Waipukurau Clubs. The big C.J.C. .meeting at Riccarton opened to-day and will be concluded to-morrow. The Great Easter Handicap was the principal event on today’s programme. The Hawera Trotting Club concluded its meeting to-day. The Metropolitan Club’s fixture at Christchurch will be brought to a close on Wednesday.

AT FEILDING. ANOTHER LARGE ATTENDANCE. CLARION CALL MAKES AMENDS. There was another large attendance at the Feikling meeting and good racing was witnessed under ideal conditions. Gaswyn and Collodion were withdrawn from the Kimbolton Hurdles, leaving a field of five runners. Clarion Call, who crashed on Saturday when going well, was again a strong favourite and, jumping cleanly, he led practically throughout. He was attended for most of the journey by Petrarch, who finished second. Ruaform made a belated run down the Straight to beat Invictus for third place, with Indiscretion well in the rear, j AN IMPROVED HORSE. BEN BRAGGIE SCORES. Boomerang, who was a good second to Ilias on Saturday, was favourite for the Rewa Hack Handicap, but the Ilia-cl colt failed to reproduce his form and finished a bad fourth. Ben Braggie, who finished fourth on the first day, was improved by the race and won nicely. Silver Wings began smartly and w'as in front for most of the journey, but tired over the last stretch, just holding out long enough to beat Ilias (who carried 9.5) well for second place by two lengths, Boomerang being fourth and Rustem fifth. ONEWHETU CONSISTENT. STRONG FIELD BEATEN. Onewhetu again demonstrated his superiority in the Easter Handicap by beating astrong field despite a rise in weight of 101 b. He lay well back till he reached the top bend, when he put in a good run that took him to the front entering the straight and from then o nhe won eaesily. Friesland *vas fractious at the barrier. but ran on the outside in a good position throughout, and finished a fair second in front of Dungarvan, who was prominent most of the way. Round Score ran his usual solid race for fourth place, followed by Hunting Cat and Red Sand. • THE DETAILED RUNNERS. KIMBOLTON HURDLES, of £100; second horse £2O and third £lO.
