PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI
VISIT BY AIODERATOR OF ASSEAIBLY. The Presbytery of AVanganui held its bi-monthly meeting at bt. Andrew’s Church, Alarton, on Tuesday. The .proceedings opened with a devotional service conducted by the Aloderator of the General Assemuly' of tlie Presbyterian Church, R.t Rev. H. H. Barton, M.A. Ladies attending the Presbyterian Association also attended this service. c . The chief feature of the Presbytery meeting was the .visit of the Moderator of the General Assembly. The Presbytery received him with due ceremony and Rev. H. Bcggs (Moderator of tlie Presbytery) welcomed him and invited him to assume the chair ot tlie Presbytery. Mr Barton, in acknowledging tne welcome, recalled his early contact with the AVanganui Presbytery during the ministry of Rev. John Ross at Turakina and of Rev. David Gordon at Alarton. Over 30 years ago, he (Mr Barton) had helped to open the Church’s work at Xaihape. On his recent visit to that parish he had been most interested to see the progress that had been made in Church work and in all the life of the community. Air Barton then assumed the chair of the Presbtery. Rev. A. E. Hunt and Air James Aitken were also welcomed. Rev.. A. L. Dixon was appointed moderator of the Bulls Home Mission Station. It was reported that the congregation of St. David’s Palmerston Non.li, had raised over £4O by special effort, and had also received tlie promised grant-in-aid of £3O. The special committee appointed to investigate the, affairs of St David’s was therefore thanked and discharged. A proposed calendar of fixtuies foi 1036 was adopted, including a presbytery retreat to be held at Hunterville and the annual Communion service,’ to be held at the August meeting. . ~ , The following congregations are to receive visitations during the year.— bt. Andrew’s (Palmerston North), St, David’s (Taihape), Apiti, and St. Paul's (Feilding). . , qo The Presbytery adjourned at 12.3 U n m and members proceeded to the Maori Girls’ College, where a luncheon in honour of the Aloderator of the assembly was held. Attending the luncheon were the Aloderator and Airs Barton, the lAiayor of Alarton (Mr I<. 1 urnell) aud Airs Purnell, and about 70 other guests. The Aloderator ot the Presbytery and the Mayor gave addresses of welcome, to which Mr Barton replied. Rev. C. AV. AVatt (chairman ot the college committee) presented members of tne college staff to the Moderator. These were Miss E. M. Kinross (principal), Aliss E. AI. iruman (matron) and Misses AI. Aliddlemiss’ and AI. Mitchell (teachers). After tlie presentation ot a bouquet to Airs Barton and a buttonhole to Air Barton the girls of the college gave a programme.
