WAGNER OPERAS.
TO BE “CIVILISED.” t • MUNICH, April 6. All of Wagner’s operas, which Herr Hitler, and General Goering frequently attend, being inveterate AVagner lovers, will be “civilised” at the forthcoming Beyreuth Festival in order to comply, with the Nazi conceptions of history and show “the noble qualities of German ancestors.” Thus the barbaric crowd hitherto brought on the stage as King Gunther’s retinue in “Gotterdammerung” will appear in artistic mantles with their hair and beards shorn and their gestures’ subdued to “give the impression that they are not barbarians, but cultured German nobles.”
