POISON GAS.
USE IN WARFARE. DISCUSSION IN THE COMMONS. Received April 8, 12.20 p.m. LONDON, April 7. “An army being trained in the use of poison gas is a legitimate form of modern warfare,” said Mr A. DuffCooper (Secretary for War), answering a question iq the House of Commons. Mr R. A. Cary (Con.) asked for an assurance that the British Army would not descend to the use of poison gas as retaliation. Mr R. H. Bernays (Lab.) asked: Is poison gas a legitimate weapon? _ Mr Geoffrey Lloyd (Con.) said the questions of the protection of infants and young children, the action necessary to prevent the contamination of food and water, and the possibility of gas reaching tube railways were being considered.
