MOORE’S FLOODGATE.
REPLACEMENT COSTS. KAIRANGA COUNTY’S SHARE. A decision to donate £25 toward the cost of a new structure to replace Moore’s floodgate at Rangiotu, which has been swept away, was made by the ICairanga County Council at the monthly meeting yesterday, the donation to be made with certain reservations. The Main Highways Board advised that representations made for a subsidy in connection with Moore’s floodgate would receive consideration. In reporting on an inspection of the site, the chairman (Cr. D. Collis) said he considered that the county was interested' in the speedy diminution of -flood waters vitally affected the main road nearby. It had been proposed, he said, that tlie council should donate £25 toward the cost of the new gate, provided the Main Highways Board contributed £75 ana the Manawatu Drainage Board found the balance of the cost, approximately £250 to £275. The council passed a. motion on the lines indicated.
