TANGIMOANA.
A social was tendered on Saturday evening, by the newly formed branch of the Labour Party, in honour of Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P., and Mrs Hunter. A large number of supporters were present to extend a welcome to their guests, who, in the early part of the evening, were the recipients of a pair of delicately fashioned vases, made of wood found on the beach, and turned and polished by a local resident, Mr A. Needham. Mr A. Karkeek, in making the presentation, thanked their representative for the interest he had taken in that corner of the electorate. Mrs Hunter received a beautiful bouquet, presented by Valma Karkeek. On behalf of the residents of Tangimoana, Air J. C. Johnson, also extended a welcome, and remarked that he hoped Mr Hunter would continue to take an interest in the settlement. Mr Hunter, in accepting the gift and returning thanks, remarked upon the beauty of tbe vases, which were the product of excellent workmanship. Mr Hunter gave the audience his assurance that he would do his best for Tangimoana, should the occasion arise. He had noticed previously the inroads the river had made during the recent floods, and very soon steps would be taken to prevent further erosion. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, the music being supplied by Mrs Maekintoch (Rongotea) and Mr B. Rogers (Palmerston North): Mr N. Scott was M.C., Other items contributed were a recitation and song by Mr Curry (Sanson), sailor’s hornpipe and Irish jig dance by Dorothy Maclean, (Palmerston North), song by Mrs N. Scott, two Irish folk songs by Mr O’Brien, and mouth organ solos by Mr C. Donovan. Piano to songs and dances were played by Mrs A. D. Scott. Competition winners were -Mrs Wilson and Mr C. Donovan.
