RACING NEWS

FORM FOR FEILDING. NOTES ON THE RUNNERS. EASTER PROSPECTS. (By “Spectator.”) The Feilding Jockey Club acceptances make up a tine list and thcro should be some first-class racing on Saturday. Journet, fresh from his victory over John Charles at Hastings, now heads the Kawa Kawa Hurdles with 10.6. He will meet stronger opposition than at Hastings, but is certain to go a good race. Clarion Cali, whose only race for some time was in the Trial Plato at Trentham, which he won, is to contest the Kawa Kawa Hurdles, in which lie has been set to carry 10.5.

Gaswyn carried 9.5 when he defeated Invictus, 9.11, in the Karere Hurdles at Awapuni. At Feilding there is only 21b between them and Invictus may turn the tables on the Gasbag geldmg. Tiger Bill looks the best of the lightweights in the hurdle race. Rc’ipar has not had a race for some time and the Greyspear gelding, who is a good hack when right, may not be ready to show his best in the Ongo Flack. Ilias looks tho form horse in the Ongo Hack. Her last seven starts have realised two wins,"a second and three thirds. She was scon out at Awapuni, _ where Flammarion and Oratory finished in front of her. Rustciii was unplaced, but has since run second to Solaria at Pahiatua.

Whyte Melville will carry strong support at Feilding in view of his forward running at Awapuni, when on the first day Sansfoy beat him by a head, and on the second day Sansfoy and Prevail got up to beat him by a length each way. Silvanus won the Autumn Plato at Awapuni in fine style and should show, up in her engagements at Feilding. Ben Braggie was a winner at Napier Park last month and has not-raced since. He gave Joviality, a winner at Hastings on Saturday, a throe lengths beating at Napier. AVar Lap has started twice since his success at Bulls but has raced disappointingly. • ... An interesting acceptor for the Feilding Cup is Peter Jackson, who has not raced for a long <time and cannot be ready to give of his best. Davistock had a run in the Prince of Wales Handicap at Awapuni but did not show up. He has had*a run of outs since he scored at Stratford at the New Year. Hunting Cat, a cup runner, was backed down to third favourite in the President’s Handicap at Trentham, bid fell. He inay be seen to advantage next Saturday. Hungarian has done right, so far, in his racing, and the Colossus gelding looks the logical favourite for the cup race. Grateful, who scored a surprise win in the Prince of Wales _ Handicap at Awapuni, and is engaged in the cup, also figures in the Easter Handicap at Ellcrshc. Oncwhetu has raced very consistently of late, his last five starts resulting in three wins and a third. He carried the steadier of 9.10 when he won at Awapuni, and looks a good prospect for an early race. The Feilding Cup opposition may be a bit beyond him. Gay Boy was fourth to Spiral, Pladio, and Round Score in the Tamatctc Handicap at Awapuni, and he may spring a surprise in the Feilding Cup. Round Score and Rod Rufus have run prominently lately, and the latter, will be all the better for his races at Pahiatua, where ho faded away over the last bit. Prevails two seconds at Awapurn will be remombored when he is saddled up fot tho Maiden Stakes, . Maestro has shown promise lately and should finish well up in the Maiden race. Triinden was third at Marton at the New Year. Gold Mission will be a popular fancy in the Man'gaone Handicap. Lavina and Coui'tega narrowly beat her on the filet day at Awapuni, and next day she beat all but Hiatomous, who went his best race for a long time. Hiatomous is down to race again, but the marc’s consistency will ensure her plenty of support. Friesland was paid up for in the sprint, but the chances are that he will do his racing at Auckland. . . . . Land Tax had a race at Awapuni in the Johnston Memorial Handicap, but was not sighted, while Souchong has not carried colours since the New Year. Beau Gallantc was fourth to Hiatomous, Gold Mission, and Courtcga in the Felegraph Handicap at Awapuni and if he has improved in the meantime should run well at Feilding. . . Bazaino lias improved since having a run at the Manawatu meeting and the Awapuni-traincd gelding is a likely one to salute the judge soon. Candico beat*Notium and. Moquclte at Awapuni and was a close third to Black Friar and Moquette on the second day. AVhat beats him in the Taonm Nursery at Feilding should win. Laughing Lass, Mirth, and The Bigot haves hown _ promise in recent races. Sardius was a winner at Hastings last Saturday. Chile won well at Pahiatua and lie will take a lot of boating in the Onepuhi Hack. Royal Banquet showed u return to form at Hastings, while AVaipiro lan Onewhctu to a length at Awapuni and should be in demand. . , , Muggins ran soundly at Awapuni, boating all but Uungarvan in the lc Matin Handicap, but he missed on the second day. Doncgul finished third and fourth at Awapuni. , Midian baa not been produced since he ran a third to Refresher and Beau Gallante at Egmont. He is reported to be working well and is in the Halcombc Handicajiinottio ant p jubilee Song have not been in the money lately, but with the conditions to their liking, both horses are capable of running solid races Passion Flower will.probably be favourite for the Halcombc Handicap and she is showing form to Suggest that she will tako a lot of beating. GENERAL. Yesterday’s scratching,! for tho Auckland Easter meeting are as followßrighton Hurdles: Emancipation (10.14 a.in.). Prc-

sident’s Handicap: Nun Nicer (10.20 a. m.). Fracas did not run up to expectations at Trentham, but she has done well since then and as she generally races well at Riccarton she should go a merry seven furlongs in tho Great Easter on Monday. Haut Mondo shaped well at Hastings and it looks as though a middle distance will not be beyond him. R. Marsh will bo at the AVairarapa meeting on Saturday after which he will go south to Riccarton to do the riding of Mrs J. Campbell’s horses. Riding engagements announced for the first day of the Auckland meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday . include: R. J. Fearn, Night of Australia; J. 1. Fergus, Sebrof, Victor Colima, Town Beauty; R. Greek Shepherd appreciated - his stay at Awapuni and thrived on his work. Now ho has impressed the Auckland critics, who arc prepared to see him give a good account of himself in his engagements The greatly-improved Wall Street, winner of four races this year, is reported to be looked upon ns a good prospect for the Riverton Cup, for which he has received the minimum weight. Mall Street has won at a mile and should accomplish ten furlongs successfully, as he is by Night Raid from Easy Street by Solfermo. The chief difficulty may be to secure a good rider for him at the weight.
