Mrs F. Goldingham is a Palmerston North visitor to Wellington. Mrs L. Hii*d, of Opiki, is the gnest of Mrs W. J. Smith, “Studleigh,” Colyton. Misses J. Cameron and O. Blair were elected members at the annual meeting of the Business Girls’ Club last evening. Mr and Mrs N. Peat and family, of Colyton, are on holiday in the South Island. Mrs Birch, of Longburn, has as her guest hc-r daughter, Mrs V. Screech, .of New Plymouth. Miss Dorothy Ower is spending a holiday in the Waikato as the guest of her aunt, Mrs C. B. Peart, ltaglan. Mr and Mrs J. H. Simmons, of “Shirley,” Mangawhatu, accompanied by Mrs S. J. Simmons, of Ngata Street, Palmerston North, have left on a motor tour of the north.

Miss Annis Burrows, of Palmerston North, has returned home after an extended holiday in New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs Keith Clayton, of Palmerston North, will visit Welhngton for the Easter holidays, and will be the guests of Mr and Mrs I'. Clayton, Hill Street. Mr and Mrs G. Eddie, of Hastings are at present the guests of Mr and Mrs Bruce McLeod. “Totarau,” Colyton, but leave for Taupo on Thursday accompanied by Mr W. McLeod and Mr B. McLeod.

Miss Jean Ware, who is shortly to be married, was presented with a set of spoons, at the annual meeting of the Business Girls’ Club, last evening. Mrs M. H. Oram, in making the pre* sentation, voiced, the good wishes or the club. , On Monday, Her Excellency, Lady Galway, with Mrs White and Mrs Purvis, visited the Bongotai aerodrome, Wellington, and made a llight in the Wellington Aero Club’s Waco biplane, piloted by Squadrean-Leader G. L. Stedman. They were up about halt an hour, flying over the city and the Hutt. Valley. Lady Galway expressed her pleasure at the experience. At the annual meeting of the Business Girls! Club, last evening, the president (Mrs M. H. Oram) said that the club was very fortunate in having Mrs A. E. Mansford as its patroness She was a great asset to the club, said Mrs Oram. A glowing tribute to the work of Mrs Oram, who has been president of the club since its inception, except for one break, was paid by Miss D. Mitchell. Mrs Mansford and Mrs Oram suitably replied. Miss P. Hindle, general secretary of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A., will attend the Dominion conference of the Round Table and Lyceum Clubs being held at Waikanae from; , day evening until Monday night. She left Palmerston North to-day. Other Palmerston North representatives leaving to-morrow include Misses I. Hastings, R. Lees, Bailey (2), and Musgrave. Dr. Sylvia Chapman, Dominion president, who recently returned from a visit to Geneva, will preside. . golfT ; MANAWATU LADIES’ CLUB. The Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club held a medal competition at the Hokowhitu course, yesterday. Results were: A grade.—Mrs L. L. Millar (Marton), 9).—14—77. , , B grade.—Mrs J. Kirk (Manawatu), 100—26—74. PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. The Palmerston North Ladies' Golf Club held a bogey competition, yesterday the best cards being handed in by Mrs W. Stephens, 3 down, and Mrs 11. EASTER PARTY. TAKARO CROQUET CLUB. The Takaro Croquet Club’s Easter party was held on the club’s lawns yesterday in perfect weather. There was a large attendance of members, and the numerous competitions were keenly contested. The luncheon and afternoon tea tables presented a festive appearance, being decorated with dahlias, zinnias, and gaily coloured serviettes, and a plentiful supply of good things was greatly appreciated. Results of competitions are: —Golf, Mrs Christie; angles, Mrs Burnett; ladder, Mrs Anstis; French, Mrs Russell; pegging out, Mrs Spooner; crazy, Mrs Bovis; skittles, Mrs Mitchell. A prize donated by Mrs Lyall and Mrs Durham for a special competition was won by Mrs Durham. 1 gift Evening. A BRIGHT FUNCTION. Miss B. Boyd, a popular member of Messrs Collinson and Cunningliame’s staff, who is shortly to be married, was honoured by her fellowworkers at a gift evening, held at the residence of Miss Matthewson, Elizabeth Street, on Monday. The time was passed all too quickly with novelty games, competitions and community singing. . t Before supper, the hostess voiced the good wishes of all present for Miss Boyd and called upon her to open a number of parcels, which brought to view many beautiful gifts. After the guild business had been completed, the members joined ; their friends in the school hall, which 1 was made bright with flowers. Mrs W. Mumiy, who. presided, extended a hearty welcome to all members ana 1 friends, special mention being made i of Mrs Wright, of Feilding, who was - present for the first time, also Mes- ■ dames Martin and Brown, who had i been on the sick list. Apologies , for * absence were received from Mesdames i Aiken, Bycroft, and Page. After the singing of a hymn following contributed to the eujoya.ne . programme: Pianoforte duet, Mesdames Bai and Lvon ; vocal solos, Mis I Coupe and Miss Sparrow; elocutionary items, Miss Rose Edwards. All the performers had to respond to encores. Mrs J. Wilkinson, who was the speaker for the afternoon, gave a most helpful and interesting talk on .“The Power of Thought.” “What we think, said the speaker, “is more powerful than our speech and can travel a very long distance.’* She instanced several incidents which had come under her notice in the past. “As a man thinketli, so is he.” said the speaker. “Let our thoughts be good and pure and fearless, which 1 must be reflected in our lives and countenances.” Mrs Mundy thanked Mrs Wilkinson for her talk and a vote of thanks to all who had contributed to the programme was given on the motion of Mrs Bryant. Mrs Munday then closed the meeting with prayer. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Mundy, Simpson, Lyon and Nicholls. The accompanist was Mrs W. Lyon.

VALEDICTORY.

At a meeting of the Central _ School ladies’ cofnmittee the opportunity was taken of farewelling Mrs Withers, who has left Palmerston North to take up her residence in Waipukurau. • In asking Mrs Withers to accept a small gift, as a token of the committee's appreciation, Mrs D. Evans voiced the regret of the ladies .at losing such an excellent worker,' and wished her happiness in her new home. -

WEST END DANCE.

There was a good attendance at the fortnightly dance of the West End School Committee last night, and those present spent an enjoyable time. The floor was in excellent order, and a professional orchestra supplied music of a high standard. Mr W. Collins carried out the duties of M.C. Competitions were won by Mr Attree and Miss Warner (lucky spot), Miss C. Craven and Mr J. O’Neill (Monte Carlo), Mr W. Barrett and Miss Hoskings (lucky partner Gay Gordons). An extra was played by Mr A. Ganderton. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee. Mr A. Penketh was door steward.
