JUBILEE. MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) HALCOMBE, April 6. A meeting was held last week to make plans for the school’s diamond jubilee celebrations, which are to be held in 1937. There was a good attendance and Messrs W. and I. McLennan were voted chairman and secretary respectively. A general discussion followed, and Mr W. S. Page's motion, that a Halcombe Old Pupils’ Association be formed, met with unanimous approval. All present constituted themselves a committee, with power to add. Fir E. R. Long, the present head teacher, stated that well over a thousand pupils had passed through the school. The matter of ascertaining their addresses was entrusted A) Flessrs B. Wischowsky, IV. S. Page, L. Fergusson, W. Clapham, W. Heappey, R. Fergusson, D. Hughes, \V. FlcLennan, I. FlcLcnnan. R. Williams, J. E. Ferguson, and E. R. Long. When this work is completed, a further meeting is to be held. It was decided that the celebrations be hold in Fiareh of next year, although the actual anniversary falls in July. ’ TENNIS CLUB’S DANCE...

The Guy Cup competitions now being completed, as also are the club handicap tournaments, the local Tennis Club held a most successful wind-up dance and euchre party in the Jubilee Hall on Friday evening. There was a gold attendance, neighbouring clubs being well represented. The prizes for the euchre competition were won by Mr E. Dais and Fins F. C’owdry, the runners-up being Fir W. Heappey and Firs A. FlcNae. Novelty dances were held with the following results: —Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss E. McLennan and Fir R. Bishop; Flonte Carlo, Fliss J. Groves and Fir W. Hunter; spot waltz, Fliss Hopkins and Fir W. Hunter. A competition was won hi' Firs B. Harris. Fir E. W. Cowdrey, president of the Country Tennis Chibs’ Association, in presenting the Guy Cup and the B grade cup, slated that the season had Keen a most interesting and enjoyable one. The fate of the A grade cup had hung in the balance until the last set of the last match had been decided, Halcombe proving the ultimate winners, while Cheltenham were runners-up. Halcombo had not encountered much opposition in the B grade, which they won also. Fir Cowdrey presented the cups to FI. C. Atnadio and D. C. Flanagh, captains of the A and B teams respectively. The following players were the recipients of club trophies won during the seasonLadies’ singles, Fliss V. Wilson; men’s singles. FI. C. Amadio; men’s doubles, R. Anderson and FI. C. Amadio; mixed doubles, Fliss D FlcNae and FI. C. Amadio. A further trophy for the winning of most games in the ladies’’ Guy Cup team was presented to Fliss V. Wilson. Fir G. Winton was the donor of the latter trophy. The dance continued until the rrnali hours, Fir FI. C. Amadio acting as M.C. TENNIS. The handicap doubles tourney was concluded on Friday afternoon when FI. C. Amadio and Fliss D. FlcNae beat T. Clapham and Fliss C. Rogers, 50 —41. Results of this tourney are as follow : —First round: T. Clapham and Fliss C. Rogers (owe 9) beat D. Bryant and Fliss E. Ft / PERSONAL. Firs E. R. Long, who is at present staying in Wanganui, will spend the Easter vacation in New Plymouth. Messrs E. R. Long and C. C. Bleakley intend motoring 1 to New Plymouth for the Easier holidays. Mrs C. Parnell has returned to Wellington after a visit to Firs A. Sterne, of Halc.ombc. Firs Parnell is making an excellent recovery after two severe operations. Firs K. Anderson has been spending a holiday with her mother in Carterton. Firs G. A. Nieoi has returned home after a holiday spent with her sster, Firs Flexted, ~ of Tawa Flat. Fir F. FI. Savwell lias returned after spending a brief holiday in Palmerston North, with iiis son. During the Easter holidays Fliss G. James will ho the guest of Firs G. Entwistlc. of Beaconsfield.
