AIR CONDITIONING.

DISCOVERY BY ACCIDENT. A man who made a million■ dollais from. an invention which he discovered by accident arrived in AleJbonrne recently. He is Mr Miles Carrier, of New 1 ork, the inventor of the principle of air-conditioning, who is making a world tour. have made more than a million dollars with it.” Mr Carrier has just completed an inspection of the Robinson deep mine at Johannesburg, South Africa, which has the largest air-conditioning plant in the world. .With this plant operating, miners can work full shifts 8300 feet below the surface of tlie earth When air-conditioning is extended to other South Africa dnines the gold output of the Union should be doubled, Mr Carrier said.
