AIR CRASH
CITY OF KHARTOUM. CAUSE UNCERTAIN. CORONER’S FINDING. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 20, 11.10 a.m. ALEXANDRIA, March 19. The Coroner stated that it was impossible to establish with certainty the cause of the City of Khartoum air disaster. While it was clear that there was no petrol when the engines failed, he rejected the theory of alteration of the main jet in the carburettor. The main cause of the accident was shortage of fuel due either to an airlock m the petrol gauges or exhaustion of the supply. The Coroner added a rider that alterations to the petrol supply should be brought to the notice of Imperial Airways' pilots and flight engineers. The Court recommend the company to tighten up the system of inter-com-munication between the flare path and the slipway, to provide a seagoing tug for rescue work, also that aircraft be supplied with signals for emergency landings.
