Sardius, who ran second to Karl in the juvenile event at Napier Park, was having his first race, so his performance was at least a promising one. Sardius is one- of the offspring of the Tetrareh horse Tractor, who has been standing in Hawke’s Bay for some seasons after having been in the far south earlier in his stud career. He is a brown gelding out of The 1926 bay mare Sweet Sue, a daughter of Lord Quex and Shinto Shrine, who was by Jac-k Jellicoe (imported son of Myram) from Pendant, by Motiti (son of Castor) from Jewellery (dam also of Argent), by St. Lcgcr. Sweet Sue, who did not race, is a sister to Pritnax, a winner on tlio East Coast.
