FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent..) FOXTON, March 14,
The Foxton Beach Volunteer Fire Brigade is at present engaged in constructing a. fire station near the hall, at the beach. Mr John Farquhnr, of Sydney, is on a visit to Foxton and is the guest of Mr and Mrs. Brewer. Avenue Road. At the local Police Court on Saturday morning, before Messrs J. K. Ilornblow and M. E. Perrcau, J.P.'s, Charles Lowe, a single man. of Shannon, was charged with driving a motor car in Avenue Road, Foxton, on March 13, while in a state of intoxication. Defendant was represented by Mr M. B. ’Bergin who entered a plea of guilty. Counsel said that defendant, who" was not addicted to drink, and had not had a drink for four or live months, on, arrival in Foxton, however, bad bad several whiskies, lie realised his condiition and got into bis car, thinking that if he could sleen lie would be all right. lie made no attempt to start tile car and did not even get behind tbo wheel. When Constable Owen appeared and asked if ho iwas in charge of the vehicle bo admitted be was. A fine of £5 with costs 3s was imposed and defendant’s license was endorsed.
