ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASI-IHURST, March 16. On Saturday the open championship of the Ashhurst Defence Rifle Club was fired. There was a disappointing attendance of visitors, and the number of competitors was lower than in previous years. Conditions were seven shots at each of 300, 500 and 600yds ranges. The Weather conditions were very tricky, for though the afternoon was fine, a changing light and a strong rear fishtail wind made consistently good scores very nearly impossible. The winner, J. Searle, who takes the open championship rose bowl, was the only one to master the conditions on tlio day, and his score of 34 —32—32—98, of a possible 105, was a very fine performance. It is the highest scol’o yet registered over 300, 500 and 600yds on tho Ashhurst range. What must be credited as the best effort of tho day was that of M. Paton, the elub’6 youngest member. This young shot secured second place find also won the trophy for B grade shots, liis scoro reading 28 —33 —30 —91. Last year’s champion, W. G. Rotnley, finished in third place.
