improvements desired. AT TERRACE END. • The committee of the Terrace End Progressive Association last evening suggested improvements to the railway line from Napier Road crossing to Albert Street. . The Railway Department sought information regarding the fence the association desired to erect on the line, and also the shrubs it was proposed to plant. The request, it was added, had Been forwarded to the district traffic manager at Wellington for considerThe chairman (Air F. J. Oakley) said his idea was to have a wire fence, well strained, erected and Japanese clieiry trees and other flowering shrubs plant--0(1, In a discussion which ensued, it wal contended that the erection of a fence would preserve children from the dangers inherent in trespassing on the railway line. The City Council, the chairman thought, might help in the matter of the fencing. Air H. E. Townshend said that the present state of the railway line was an eyesore, and could be considerably improved with a good low fence; it was questionable whether shrubs would grow well against the suction draught of fast trains. , . . Asked whether the removal of the railway line in the future would affect the association’s proposal, the chairmflii said h© did not think the line would ever be removed. Air R. Cousins moved that the association desires to have erected a fence 3ft 6in high from Fitzroy Street to Albert Street, with white painted posts, and that the shrubs consist of rhododendrons. azaleas, and hydrangeas, and other similar low growing 'plants.^ Air J. Davidson seconded the motion, which was carried. ' . It was also decided to ask the department to replace the present fence between Napier Road and Fitzroy Street with the type of fence the association favours, and to have the grass section cut and cleared up.
