GREAT BRITAIN’S PLEDGE. MR EDEN’S REITERATION. THE RHINELAND ISSUE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official AVireless.) Received February 13, 11.50 a.m. RUGBY, Feb. 12. In the House of Commons this afternoon, the Foreign Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden) was asked if he would give an assurance that the provisions of the Treaty of Locarno requiring that Great Britain should immediately come to the help of France or Germany in the event of a flagrant broach by either of Article 42 or 43 of the Treaty of Versailles, concerning the demilitarised zone, would be rigidly adhered to as long as tlie treaty remained in operation and had not been abrogated by the general consent of the parties. Mr Eden replied: “The obligations of His Majesty’s Government are specified in the Treaty of Locarno itself. His Majesty’s Government stand by those obligations, and, as lias been previously stated in this House, intend should the need arise to faithfully fulfil them.”
