LONGBURN, Feb. 11. i 'Hie results of ladder matches played 'recently on the local tennis courts are its follow, the challenger being- mentioned first in each case: —F. ileai'sey beat C. Francis, 9 —7; M. Bhirrll's lost to J. Aldcrsloy, 7—9; 11. Temperton beat N. Wilson, 9—5; Miss A. Oliver boat Miss T. Oliver, 7 —3; 11. Temperton beat M. Shirrifi's, 9—5; Miss 11. Hills lost to Mrs Godfrey, 4 —7; M. Bhirrilfs . lost to J. Aldcrsley, 7—9, The last competition tennis match played by the local club’s team was against Palmerston North at the Linton Street courts. The score was 8 sets to 3 in favour of Palmerston North, when rain set in and the match had to bo abandoned. The next int'er-club competition match will be against Bulls at the local courts next Saturday. As a result of the recent gale tho Tennis Club’s pavilion lias boon • moved a considerable distance and a large portion of the roof has been blown off. Tho volley board will also have to bo ro-crected, the force of the galo having lmrlod it completely over a wire-netting fence and deposited ..it in the back-yard of the club’s president, Mr A. Nicol. The tall posts supporting the wire-netting at each end of tho courts will require attention as most of them have been broken oil' at ground level. Mr and Mrs F. Birch are spending a holiday in Wanganui.
