ART UNION PRIZE.

WINNER’S IDENTITY. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Feb. 12. “Nigger Cannon,’’ the second prize winner in the Lucky New Year art union, is Mr Alfred Smith. He is married, with two children, and is a relief worker. Last Wednesday he bought tickets for a passage to England for himself and lamily. He said to-day that had he not already bought the steamer tickets he would remain in New Zealand. Mr Smith was formerly the New Zealand open cornet champion, being a member of the Greymoutii Municipal Band. He chose “Nigger Cannon” as the name for the art union in memory of a regimental sergeant in the Lancashire Fusiliers with which he served during the War.
