DANNEVIRKE SHOW

SECOND DAY’S AWARDS.

AN IMPRESSIVE PARADE. For the second cluy of the Daunevirke Show, yesterday, the weather was fine and there was again a large attendance. « The main attraction* yesterday was the grand parade, in which all the prize-winning stock participated, the event drawing the attention of most of the farmers and many of the local residents. Prior to the parade, and afterward, a variety of ring competitions provided further entertainment. Mr W. Tucker, adjudicator in the wool classes, was favourably impressed with the exhibits. “Although most farmers have reported heavier clips than usual, this year’s wool does not handle as well as last year’s did,” he said. “However, the fleeces which were produced at the-show in nearly every case were well grown and in good condition. They showed quality and were freely handled. The hogget wools were a good lot, there being little difference between the prize-winners and those which were unplaced. The Holden Estate’s exhibits, which gained first prize, were a very fine type of wool, displaying evenness of quality all through the fleece. This class of wool was greatly favoured by the Bradford trade.

“The hogget wools, I think, are equal to those shown at the northern Hawke’s Bay show, and if this type continues throughout the flocks, farmers need not fear the adverse comments of buyers. The ewe wools drew large entries and created strong competition. The exhibits were a credit to the growers, very few falling below the standard of the prize-winners. The average in this section was extremely good.” POINTS PRIZES. The following are additional special awards and points prizes:— Cattle. —Aberdeen Angus Society’s special, pair: A.
