AIANAAVATU v. PALAIERSTON NORTH.
An interesting struggle resulted at the meeting between Alauawatu and I Palmerston North B at the, former’s courts in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis , Association’s competitions yesterday, ' each club annexing eight sets, but Pulj uierston North had an advantage of one game on the aggregate of individual matches, tlie respective totals being 108 to 107. The detailed results are as under, the Alauawatu players reading first:— Alen’, s singles. — E. Smith beat C. Swallow, 9—6; E. Nuttnll boat G. For- | rest, 9—6; L. Sweet-man lost to A. J Landers, 5—9; M. Byers beat N. C. Itoid, junr., 9—4. | Ladies’ singles.—Miss E. Burrell lost! to Aliss Oakley, 3—■7; Aliss E. Heatle.y lost to Aliss Cope, I—7; Mrs Smith beat Aliss Niocoll, 7—3; Aliss B. Stevens lost to Airs Fisher, 3—7. Alen’s doubles.—Smith and Nuttall lost to Swallow and Forrest, 7—9; Sweetman and Byers beat Landers and lleid, 9—5. Ladies’ doubles. —Misses Burrell and Heatley lost to Alisses Oakley and Cope 4 —7 ; Mrs Smith and Miss Stevens lost 1 to Aliss Nicc-ol and Mrs Fisher, 4—7. 1 Mixed doubles.—Smith and Aliss Burrell beat Swallow and Aliss Oakley, 12—10; Nuttall and Aliss Heatley lost to Forrest and Miss Cone, 6 —9; Sweet- , man and Airs Smith beat Landers and I Miss Niccol, 10—8; Byers and Aliss Stevens beat Reid and Airs Fisher, 9—4.
