..SEASON’S AWARDS. COMPETITIONS ARRANGED. A meeting of the Mnnawatu Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving So- j ciet.v was held last night, when Mr : E J. "Worry presided. Others present ] were Messrs T. Twigge, T. E. Douds, M. F. Henry, R. R. Browne, R. Bel- • fit, R. S. Warwick, A. M. Stevenson, J. Johnson, and R. E. Small (secretary) . Apologies for absence Were received from Messrs Iv. Dawkins and D. C. Pryor. The secretary’s action in requesting Mr D. Lindsay to act as the society’s representative at Dannevirlce was confirmed. The matter of the appointment of an examiner to succeed Mr P. F. Gleeson was held over. The determining of the date for the t annual life-saving competition for the Weston Smith rose bowl was discussed, it being decided to liqld it at the municipal baths on March 3. The following judges were appointed: Messrs D. C. Pryor, T. Twigge, and A. M. Stevenson. The Secondary Schools’ Shields com-* petitions were set down for March 4, at the Girls’ High School baths, conditionally on the baths being available. EXAMINERS’ REPORTS.

In answer to a question, the chairman said the 31 recommendations were for tests taken before the Christmas holidays and that it was a very satisfactory state of affairs. The lists wero approved. In connection with the life saving event at the Girl Guides’ sports, Mr Twigge was appointed judge.

LIFE-SAVING COMPETITION. Reporting that a profit of approximately £2O would result after all accounts had been settled, the secretary suggested that a portion of the kmouiit be invested in a shield for a surf lifesaving competition on one ot tno Manaivatu beaches and that the competition he open,, to all life-saving clubs in the Dominion affiliated to the New Zealand Surf Association the speaker adding that lie considered the school holidays the most suitable tune for the holding of the competition. The suggestion met with general approval and the secretary was instructed to interview surf competition officials at Paekakariki next Sunday and to report back to the society. The New Zealand headquarters of the society wrote to the effect that in distributing the whole of the art union grant the council appeared to have given great satisfaction to head centres and it was hoped that increased results would be shown by the cen--1 The council also forwarded a copy of a letter from A. C. P. Handover, Hounslow, Middlesex, England m answer to a question by Mr K. Bassett, secretary of the New Zealand Council, regarding the Danish (Holger Nielsen) method of resuscitation. The writer explained that a sub-committee of four bad been 'set up to consider it and the vice-chairman of the central executive had spent a week in Copenhagen to study the method and had returned deeply impressed. Later the sub-committee had discussed the method from all angles and features which had emerged had led them to recommend that the Holger Nielsen method he not accepted for tuition by the societv. Only one reason was to he officially advanced for its non-ac-ceptance, this reason being set out at length in the letter.
