MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

The Feilding Magistrate’s Court sat yesterday, Mr R. M. 'Watson, S.M., being on the Bench. On a charge of driving a heavy motor lorry at a speed greater thon that allowed under its license, Eric Shortall was fined £2, .with 10s costs. A fine of 10s, with 10s costs, was imposed on Sidney W. Geange, who drove a motor car over the South Street level crossing at such time as the crossing was not clear.

PARTY AT CHELTENHAM. In support of the Cheltenham School queen carnival candidate, Miss Jean Wood, a successful social evening was held on Friday, a large number of district residents and supporters attending. Games and competitions made up an enjoyable _ programme, extras for the dances being played by Messrs P. and R. Dunstan and D. Wood. Mr C. Anderson. Mrs Anderson and Master H. McFarlane tied in a competition, the prize going to the former in a draw. Miss Jean McFarlane, who drew with Miss Jean Wood in another competition and finally carried off the prize, was also successful in the musical parcel competition, and with Mr Ronnie Dunstan as her partner won the lucky Gay Gordons. The trophy in a lucky parcel competition went to Mr T. Short. Supper was provided by the ladies. Prior to the dispersal of the visitors, Mr H. Wood, on account of the unavoidable early departure of Mr A. B. Shannon (chairman of Miss Wood’s, committee) thanked Mr and Mrs Jensen for their kindness in giving the use of their home for the party and all those who had contributed towards its success.
