FIGHT FOR MAKALE
ABYSSINIANS REPULSED. (United Press Association—-By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 11, 1.45 p.m. ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 10. A communique states the first defeat acknowledged by either combatant was when Ras Seyounds effort to recapture Makale was repulsed after days of fighting owing to triple 6ft barbed wire entanglements against which the Abyssinians flung themselves to be mown down by machine guns. Rome reports that losses on the European death-roll in January were 440, of whom 341 were killed in action. The European death-roll since the beginning of. January last year is 884.
