HINTS FOR THE HOUSE. When kerosene is used.—Kerosene will remove obstinate tea stains. The stained article should be soaked in kerosene for a short time, then rinsed in hot water. Baths, sinks, and linoleum can be cleaned quickly with kerosene. Kerosene, water, and methylated spirits in equal parts will make an excellent window cleaner. It will also remove rust stains from tinware, and is excellent for cleaning paint, also dirty hands. Flex protection.—ln households where any electrical appliances, such as au iron, a radiator, or a vacuum cleaner are used, a roll of insulated tape should always be kept at hand. As soon as a flex shows signs of fraying, the weak place should be carefully bound with a length of tape. Flexes should be handled with care, so that they are kept free from kinks. These soon damage the wires, and may cause short circuiting and fusing. An inexpensive footstool.—Take seven 21b. treacle tins and put each in an old stocking. Place one in the middle and arrange the others round it. Sew them together and leave the ends of the stockings for padding. Be sure to put the lids on the tins and put them with the lid ends up. Cover with moquette, chintz, tapestry, or any other material. Cut a strip the length of the side and a piece for the top. Cover the bottom, and finish with braid.
