PAHIATUA. Jan. 18. At the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Council Council, the consulting engineers (Messrs Seaton, Sladden and I’avitt) submitted the following report: “Good progress line been made with the southern section of sealing work, about four miles, Eketahiinn, boundaryKonini bridge. The priming coat of tar preparation was completed during- December and is now setting up with traffic preparatory to receiving the bitumen scaling coat. On the northern section (four miles), ending at the Xgawapiuua bridge, the formation work is completed and metalling about io lie done. The pit lias been prepared and the plant erected. No. 84. Station Road Highway: Good progress has been made. The reconstruction work lias been completed and the tar priming coal applied. No. 442 Highway, Mangaono Stream Bridge: Excellent progress has been made. There has boon completed to date the whole of the southern span, with the exception of the top part of the guard railing. The boxing for the superstructure of the northern span is erected and the steel is being placed preparatory to pouring the concrete. The formation work ol the approaches is in hand. No. 61 l’ahin-tiia-Pongarca Highway, Hotel Bridge: A commencement has been made. .1 he concrete piles have been cast, a temporary bridge erected and the diversion cut for the crook attended to.” i . The report of the overseer (Mr S. McRae) stated, inter alia:—“Pahiatua-l’ongn-roa Highway: Approximately 450 cubic yards of crushed metal have been spread. Two hundred yards of river shingle have been dumped at N'gaturi lor maintenance work. Two dangerous washouts have been repaired and overhanging scrub has been cut. 'The Makuri Gorge contract has been completed. Makuri-Mangatoro Highway: River shingle has been spread and a quantity dumped for future usc._ On the Mangatoro hill a dangerous point lias . been widened. On the Makuri section a dangerous wash-out has been timbered. Pulna-tua-Mungaone Highway: Loose metal has been graded in and water-tables have been cleaned. Metal repairs will be carried out as soon as trucks arc available. PahialuaBalancc oGrgc. Metal has been graded in and slips have been removed. Manguhao Valley: Grading lias been carried out ami surface patching has been attended to. Widening at the bluff is proceeding. I Alliance township: A dangerous bend at Mr Gibson’s homestead has been improved. Palmerston track: Slips have been removed and metalling on curves has been carried out.” Mrs 11. T. Dawson and her sister, Mis* Meredith, are spending a holiday at Wat kaiiac. Mrs J. Diamond, sour., Mr and Mrs G 'Turnbull and Miss Doris Ogden leave by motor car for Gisborne on Monday morning.
