CRASH OVER BANK.
DRIVER’S CLOSE CALL. Per Press Association. AIAIITON, Jan. 20. A miraculous escape was experienced on Sunday morning by Walter M'anning, a well-known stockbuyer, when returning to Alarton from Turakina Valley in his car. On a narrow portion of the road he met another car and, in endeavour in" to pass, went over the bank, crashing through a scrub fence 100 feet into the Alakohau Stream below, coming to rest upside
down. By a lucky chance the car’s progress was cheeked at the last moment and instead of entering the deep water side-on it straddled the bank out_of the water sufficiently to allow Mr Alarming to escape from a window. He was assisted to the road by the other motorist: and brought, to Alarton suffering from shock and only minor injuries. The salvage of the ear will present considerable difficulties.
