PAHIATUA, Jan. 20. The electoral officer ’for the Pahiatua electorate has now released the tabulated figures for the licensing poll. The peiccnfago of votes cast in the polls in 1919, 1922, 1925, 1928 and 1935 are as follow 93.04. 91.82, 91.03, 91.80. The percentage of Continuance votes was as follows: — 45.94, 49.61, 49.58, 52.91, 68.54. The final return for tho health stamp campaign in Pahiatua and tho adjacent district is as follows: —Health stamps, £32 9s 8d; envelopes, 7s lOd; donations, £3l 4s lOd.

At tho fortnightly meeting of tho Pahiatua Lodge, U.A.0.D., Bro. H. Fisher, junr., A.D., presided. Correspondence from the Stonehenge Lodgo No. 1 was received regarding its visit to Pahiatua. A largo attendance of local brethren is expected, besides many from sister lodges. A motion regarding the funds of the lodge was passed, and the balance-sheet regarding the friendly societies’ hospital scheme was submitted. Congratulations were extended to tho A.D. on his narrow escape in a recent accident at Pori.

Mr Curtin, the stationmastcr, reports that there is a decrease ovor last year’s figures for fat lambs carriage and that for the period December 16, 1935, to January 18, 1936, 17,712 lambs went forward. Passenger revenue, however, he said, showed an increase of £23 over the same period, while tho amount received from parcels, including checked luggage, was the same as last year. Goods, inward and outward, showed an increase of 51 tons, which was a* revenue increase of £B4. During the period under review, a total of 796 passongers had boen carried, the revenue being £192. Fifty-eight cattle and 17,712 sheep had boon trucked, while parcel revenue was £35 and that of other goods £1370.

Eighty tickets were issued at the Pahialua station on the Sunday excursion train to Napier; ticket issues at 16 neighbouring stations being Mauricevilio 18, EkotaInina 77, Hukanui 16, Pahiatua 80, Mangatainoka 45, Woodville 53. There were 12 carriages on the train and every one was fully occupied. Members of the Domain Board paid a visit of inspection to Carnival Park today in connection with several improvements to be effected shortly.

Miss M. Moriarty, of the Pahiatua Post Office staff, leaves to-day for a visit to her home in Hawke’s Bay. Mrs B. Hagan lias left for a short visit to Dannevirke. Mr and Mrs T. _W. Watts and family have left for a holiday in Rotorua. Mrs W. C. Coldicutt, Mr and Mrs W. Pascoo and Miss E. Coldicutt are visiting Wellington. Mr W. G. Laing, of Masterton, lias been appointed judge of the fat sheep section at the Pahiatua A. and P. Society show. Mr and Mrs C. L. Matthews, who have been spending the school holidays with Mrs Matthews’s parents, Mr and Mrs J. Harrison, Tydnall Street, have left for Auckland.

The Pahiatua County Council met today, Cr. A. W. Bisset presiding. The Department of Crown Lands advised that certain lands leased by the council had not been vested in the council, and that they had arranged to let the sections to the respective tenants. The chairman enquired it there was any chance of having the lands vested, anti the clerk replied that the department was endeavouring to get in all the revenue possible and locate all such sections. The Labour Department notified that the council was required to hold a special meeting to determine the statutory lialf-lioliday for shops in the district. —It was pointed out that the borough holiday was Wednesday, and consequently no action was taken. The Wairarapa Automobile Association thanked the council for their action in having; the name of the Pahiatua Track road changed to the Palmerston North —Pahiatua Hill Road.—Received. A letter was received from the Public Works Department, in which it was stated that since its engineer kacl inspected the detour routes, the Manawatu Gorge bad again been blocked, and therefore the engineer had been instructed to make a thorough inspection of the detour route in order to arrive at the amount of money which should be found by the Highways Board to cover its share of the cost of maintenance of detour routes Ins having been done, the sum of £250 has been'allocated for the purpose—The council considered this amount quite satisfactory and the letter was received The I üblic Works Department reported that an inspection of the river had been niau_ a-.d that it was found that the river was cu ting in behind the present protection works at a point about 18 chains above the bridge.
