A BEAUTIFUL CITY

VISITORS’ HIGH PRAISE. NEW SOUTH WALES BOWLERS. Accompanying the New South Wales par tv of bowlers who . arrived in Palmerston North yesterday, from Wellington, is Mr A. H. Messenger, of the i-uolicity Office, Wellington, and in conversation with a “Standard” reporter lie mentioned that the visitors had been loud in their praises of the lay-out of Palmerston North and the cleanliness of the streets. A number of the visitors had been comparing the countryside and the towns they had seen in the Dominion with their own towns of like size, and all had readily ■ admitted that Palmerston iNortn outri val led their own towns of similar size, both in respect to lay-out and beauty. The Square gardens had also greatly impressed the visitor?: wlio were delighted with the display of, dahlias growing there. Yesterday afternoon the opportunity was taken by some members of the party to take a motor run out into the country. Among the points visited was the Manawatu Gorge, whic« thev thought most unusual by reason of the fact that the roadway ran along the one side of the gorge and the railway line on the other. While in the south a few of the tourists paid a hurried trip to Dunedin, but the majority had not found it possible to break away from the main party in Christchurch. One and all now realised that the nature ol their visit was all too short to enable justice to be paid to the Dominion, and many of the beauty spots had, perforce, to he passed by. However, one and all were greatly impressed with what they had seen, while the agriculturalists in the party had spoken in high terms of the Ireshness of the pastures and the condition of the stock.
