LEVEL CROSSING SMASH.
LUCKY ESCAPE AT LEVIN. Two residents of Levin, Messrs R. Anderson and J. Corrigan, experienced a remarkable escape yesterday afternoon when a van in which they were riding was struck by the southbound Napier express and practically smashed to matchwood. The collision took place at the Roslyn Road crossing. Levin, and it is understood that Mr Corrigan had a collarbone broken and also suffered abrasions, his companion escaping injury. The van was engaged on delivering bread when it was struck on the right hand side by the train. Nearby residents heard the crash and rushed to the scene of the accident, medical aid being summoned. Tbe incident delayed the train for about 20 minutes.
