EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD." SEPTEMBER 30, 1905. The annual report of the Palmerston North Bowling Club showed that in the previous year subscriptions bad brought in £147, the total amount of cash received being £197. The Easter tournament had produced £7 for the club. A local tender for the erection of the Pohangina bridge in jarrah, at a cost of £4606, had been accepted. The Makerua Estato which contained 9000 acres, and was being cut, up for flaxmilling, had changed hands at about £IOO,OOO.
The total prize money allocated to the horse sections in the forthcoming Manawatu Show amounted to £375.
The New Zealand Rugby team in England had beaten Northampton by 32 points to nil. A number of farmers, with their families, had left New South Wales for Chile as they were dissatisfied with the treatment given by the State. . ■ Russia had excited attention because of the purchase of several large cruisers from a British firm, and also 60,000 tons of coal from Cardiif.
The Angio-Japanese treaty 'had been renewed, the action being regarded with satisfaction in Great Britain.
