THE OTAKI MEETING.

GAY BOY WINS HANDICAP. BODYLINE’S FURTHER SUCCESS. Favoured by brilliai- weather, the Otaki Maori Racing Club hold a most successful one-day fixture on their own course on Saturday, the track being in beautiful order after the attention which had been given it; indeed, regular patrons could not recall seeing it in such splendid condition.

The field which went to the post in the Ling Memorial Handicap was a poor one, but the finish was quite interesting, Gay Boy winning from Sanguine King and Sunoo. In the open sprint Bodylino, who camo back in wonderfully improved order after his spell, registered his third win in succession by beating his fellow Awapuni representative, Hunting Lodge, with Pladie an unjucky third. With an excellent attendance o,f patrons, the volume of betting was good throughout, the sum of £7227 being handled for the day, an increase of £1024 10s over the £6202 10s handled on tho second day (the Saturday) last year. Tho change from a two days’ meeting resulted from a decision of tho club to transfer one of the days to December. A CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS. THE WAY MADE EASY. The way was made easy for Red Sun, who was ranking as third favourite to Arctic Star and Gold Cure for the Kapiti Hack Hurdles, to win after two scries of fails had removed dangerous candidates. After being a little slow to move Gold Cure ran up to Karangapai within the second furlong, and tho pair led Spender, Kia Tina, Royal Papa, and Nova Scotia. However, at the first fence along the back Gold Cure fell, bringing Kia Tina down, and positions underwent changes, Spender working to tho front from Battleground, Arctic King, and Karangapai. At the final fence Spender crashed, bringing down Arctic Star over him, leaving- Battleground in front from Karangapai, but Red Suu # finished strongly to win by a short neck from Battleground, with Karangapai two lengths back. Royal Papa was tho only other runner to finish. THE FAVOURITE BEATEN. THE IMAGE SCORES NICELY. Going Gay was made a short priced favourite for the Puhi Maiden Plato from Enthcos, but while they filled the minor places in reversed order, Tho Image, a lull-sister to The Dimmer, a well-known Australian performer, proved to bo the winner. Going Gay and Surprise Item left the barrier smartly to take up the running Irom Enthcos, Count Roussillon, and Middle, but crossing the top Surprise Item was in charge from Going Gay with Enthcos, Conversion, and Middle in lino ahead of The Imago. Going Gay had taken charge turning into the straight, blit the filly weakened and Enthcos promised to bo the winner until The Image finished sirongly to beat the son of Enthusiasm by half a length, with a gap of three lengths to Going Gay. Myriam (who had been last to move) was ahead of Hunting Scene.

AWAPUNI TO THE FORE. ROUND SCORE’S GOOD EFFORT. Round Score was a £42 bef ter favourite than Dorado for tho Katihiku Hack Handicap, with Finnesko the only other strongly supported runner. Round Score, after being 1 at the rear turning into the straight, came with a sustained run to boat his fellow Awapuni performer, Finncsko. Jumping out smartly, Finnesko took up the running from Dorado and Round Score, but the last named immediately gave way to Royal King and Garter Red. Going along the back Garter Red worked on term with Finnesko in tho van, Dorado being at the head of the bunch with Round Score at the rear. Dorado challenged Finnesko and tho pair were lighting it out when Round Score gathered .them up to win by a length from Finnesko, with Dorado a nock away. Garter Rod was fourth.

RACING FORM TELLS. GAY BOY FINISHES ON. Tlu> field for the Ling Memorial Stakes was reduced to five runners by the defection of Kuri, Chief Marionette, Sporting Song, and Dorado. Patrons did not hesitate to install Gay Boy a firm favourite, and he duly won. Sanguine King and Stince led in the early stages, but passing the stands the first time round Stince had taken up file running from Sanguine King and Gay Boy. ':l he favourite ran up to Sutiec going along the back stretch, the pair turning for homo just ahead of Sanguine King. A determined challenge came from San'guinc King in the straight, hut under punishment Gay Boy finished very courageously to win by two lengths, with half a head separating Sanguine King and Suncc. Eminent was a poor fourth. 6 A HOLLOW WIN. SWEET MUSIC ROMPS HOME. Sweet Music, in the absence of Oratory, was made a solid favourite for the Puliiko Hack Handicap, Hound Up being next in demand. Always well placuu, Sweet Music finished- too resolutely for the others. Sweet Music and Lorcllo began srnartly to lead Otauru King on to iho courso proper, but the last named ran up to Sweet Music and the pair led across the toi>, Lorelle and Yinco being ahead of Round Up and Consummation. In the straight Sweet Music took charge to draw right away and win easing up by two lengths from Consummation, who finished strongly over the beaten lot. Vinco and Otauru King were together next.

GAME LITTLE FELLOW. BODYLINE WINS AGAIN. Gold Mission was withdrawn from the Waitawa Handicap, for which Hunting Lodgo was a £25 hotter favourite than Bodyline. The pair paid the dividends, but in reversed order, a determined finish by Bodyline carrying him to victory. Bodyline jumped quickly into his stride to lead Hunting Lodge and Lord Moutoa - with Beau Gallante handy, tho quartette opening up a gap to Bladio. Beau Gallante joined issue half a mile from home, but ran wide turning into the straight, allowing Hunting Lodgo and Pladio to come through, tho last named having come up fast. A great race between Bodyline, Hunting Lodge, and Pladie ensued, but Bodyline hung on grimly to win by a length and a quarter from Hunting Lodge, who was a short head in front of Pladio. Beau Galalnte was not persevered with, finishing six lengths back. GREAT BURST OF SPEED. CONFISCATION FINISHES WELL. Taumau, favourite for tho Taumanuka Hack Handicap, was always in tho bunch whereas Confiscation was nicely placed throughout and _ the Chief Ruler mare came through in the straight to draw right away. Although the first to find her feet Confiscation allowed Manawatu and Petrarch to take up the running with Earl Colossus, Chaste and Taumau next in order as they went away from home. Going past the five furlongs post Treasure Hunt improved his position and was with the loaders as they swept into tho straight, but Confiscation immediately challenged and she ran past them to go on and win with ease by two and a half lengths from Chaste with Treasure Hunt a length and a quarter back. Earl Colossus was fourth and Petrarch next.

A GAME EFFORT. GOLD CURE MAKES AMENDS. Miladi and Gay Boy, both" of whom had run in the big race, were absentees from the Hema Te Ao Handicap and Limulus was installed an odds-on favourite, but the Chief Ruler filly once again disappointed. Gold Cure, who had fallen in tho hurdle race, made the pace the whole way and held on to win from Walton Park. Gold Cure and Limulus wore tho first to show out from Aiguille and Lady Spy, but Gold Cure worked clear to lead across tho top and to tho straight entrance, where Grand Jury and Walton Park wero in tho rear. Limulus immediately challenged, but Gold Curo held on to win by a length from Walton Park, who finisohd strongly to beat Limulus for second money by a similar distance. Aiguille was fourth.
